Concrete slab replacement contract on I-20 starts Monday

Post Date:07/15/2016 11:59 AM
Identified Interstate 20 concrete slabs from McDuffie to Columbia County will soon receive upgrades from a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) maintenance service contract.
Monday morning Massana Construction begins a select concrete slab replacement project eastbound at mile 182 in Columbia County.
When the full-depth replacement begins, the traveling public should expect 24-hour lane closures to allow for slab saw cutting, pulling, setting and curing. Traffic will shift around one left or right I-20 lane closure depending on slab locations.
This maintenance contract covers various locations between mile 172 and mile 194 on both eastbound and westbound sides of the interstate. Massana Construction will finish all slabs eastbound first before switching to the other side of I-20. This contract should be completed within four to six weeks depending on weather conditions.
This and similar upcoming maintenance service contracts within the 27-county East Central District come from the Transportation Funding Act (TFA) of 2015. GDOT uses the sustained annual revenue from the TFA to launch much-needed routine maintenance and capital improvements.
In the coming months, citizens will see contracted vegetation removal; pavement preservation; mowing and litter pickup; shoulder widening; roadway patching, slab repair and guardrail repairs at various district locations.
