Crew Leader II - Water Utility Conveyance - Position #1370

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. The work involves operating machinery necessary to carry out tasks without constant supervision and providing functional supervision over a Utility Service Worker. Effective performance in the job facilitates the accurate and timely repair to water and sewer lines. Errors on the job may result in costly delays in repairs and restoration of service.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other utility workers, and contractors to exchange information and resolve problems.

The work is subject to the guidelines of EPA, AWWA, and the State of Georgia EPD. The individual jobs are determined by written work orders. The guidelines are clear and specific but require some interpretation in application.

The work typically requires bending, crouching, stooping, walking, and standing. The work also requires frequent lifting of both light (less than 25 pounds) and heavy (more than 25 pounds) objects.

The work is performed outdoors and exposes the incumbent to much dirt, dust, grease, cold and/or inclement weather, contagious diseases, and machinery. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks and gloves.

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Repairs leaks in water and sewer lines.

Operates machinery necessary to perform tasks (e.g., backhoe, ditch witch, sewer machine and jack hammer).

Makes water and sewer line taps.

Installs meters for water service.

Locates water and sewer lines.

Provides functional supervision over Utility Service Worker.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of water and sewer line repair methods.

Knowledge of county water and sewer line locations.

Skill in operating machinery necessary to carry out job (e.g., backhoe, ditch witch, sewer machine, and jack hammer).

Skill in the use of standard tools (e.g., wrenches, screw drivers, shovels, etc.)

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license.
